Project Overview
We have officially wrapped the production of our independent narrative short film and are seeking a collaborative, story-focused Video Editor to bring the project from rough assembly to final delivery. A preliminary rough cut will be provided. The Editor will work closely with the Director to hone dramatic pacing, narrative tension, and emotional rhythm, guiding the edit through to final picture lock, graphics integration, and master exports.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Editorial: Review the provided rough cut and work collaboratively with the Director across multiple revision passes to achieve Final Picture Lock.
Online Editing & Conform: Complete high-resolution conform, clip-level alignment, stabilization, optical re-timing, and basic cleanup.
On-Screen Graphics: Create and position all title cards, opening/closing credits, supers/lower thirds, and format compliant Closed Captions (CC/SRT).
Version Variations: Deliver two distinct edits: a tight, timed-to-spec Festival Submission Cut and an expanded Director’s Cut.
Promotional Assets: Cut and finish high-impact marketing materials, including social media teasers (vertical/square) and a polished theatrical trailer.
Knowledge of VFX is an asset.
Turnover Preparation: Prepare turnover packages (XML, EDL, AAF, and timecode reference videos) for sound and color departments.
Digital Mastering:
Export high-resolution video masters matching festival technical specifications.
Oversee or execute DCP Authoring for theatrical screening delivery.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 2+ years of experience in lead narrative editing, managing projects from assembly to final picture lock.
Demonstrated narrative editing reel showcasing short film, feature, or dramatic work.
Proficiency in NLE software (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve Studio, or Avid Media Composer).
Strong technical understanding of camera codecs, frame rates, aspect ratios, and post turnover pipelines.
Disciplined approach to version tracking, deadline adherence, and collaborative feedback.

Final Deliverables:
Render high-resolution graded master passes (ProRes 4444 / 422 HQ).
Provide master exports tailored for digital release, festival archives, and theatrical packaging (DCP authoring support a strong plus).
